About Singing Gorilla Projects

Singing Gorilla Projects (SGP) funds and facilitates community based projects in Uganda.

SGP funds and manages community based projects in remote parts of Uganda that improve the welfare of communities and enriches the lives of individuals. SGP builds and manages health facilities, builds schools and sponsors children to continue their schooling, and funds water delivery programs with water tanks, water filters and water pumping projects.

SGP work on the Nteko ridge and the surrounding hills in the Kisoro district of Uganda, a stone throw away from the DR Congo border, close by to Bwindi, the home of the last remaining majestic Mountain Gorilla.

The project works is undertaken in the Kisoro District and the Wasiko District, Uganda. Much of the Kisoro District project work is done mostly (but not exclusively) in and around the Nteko ridge and the village of Nkuringo and town of Rubuguri, in the Nyabwishenya and Kirundo sub counties respectively. SGP have set up a music school, installed over 50 water tanks to harvest rain water, sponsored children to continue their schooling and has developed the Nkuringo Green Hill Health Centre to provide medical care and services for the community, delivered by the community.

SGP works closely with the local communities who co-ordinate the work, mobilise the community to get involved and provide leadership and decision making.

About Chris

Chris Read founded Singing Gorilla Projects in 2014, following a trip to visit the mountain gorillas of the Bwindi Impenetrable Foreset, Uganda. The charity started operations by supporting a new music school that was set up in Nkuringo. Chris, would source musical instruments from friends and family and deliver them to the school. As time went by, Chris worked with the community leaders to identify other areas where help could be provided. Singing Gorilla Projects partnered with the local community to implement water sourcing and capture projects, education sponsorships, classroom and latrine constructions and the construction of a health centre. Today, Chris continues to support the projects across the Kisoro and Wakiso Districts in Uganda.
